Wearing well thought out clothing is a critical factor in getting the most from your portrait session. The main goals in selecting the right type of clothing is to
Make you the main subjects
To flatter you and make you look your best
To make the clothing disappear and not be distracting at all
This can be the difference between images that you absolutely adore and just another picture. But it doesn’t mean you need to run and buy clothes. Simply do your best with what you have.
Here are some general guidelines to work with
Dress for the environment (cold winter, likely damp underfoot)
Make sure you’re all dressed for the same weather and occasion
Neutral, more pastel colours are less distracting
If you do choose some bright colour, try to limit it and then choose other colours that coordinate well. Some coordinated colour does work well in winter.
No big logos or branding
Limit the patterns
Avoid greens, browns and earthy colours otherwise you’ll blend into the background.
